Titanium 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo (6246 or 6-2-4-6) is an alpha-beta alloy that is heat treatable to achieve higher strength in greater section sizes than Titanium 6Al-4V Grade 5 and demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance. This material is frequently found in applications where high strength, light weight, and good corrosion resistance are required. As with other Titanium alloys, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo has high level of corrosion resistance due to the existence of the oxidation layer formed upon exposure to oxygen. Additionally, because of this metals roughly 6% molybdenum content, 6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo also has excellent corrosion resistance in environments with higher levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and also demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in seawater making it an optimal material for offshore and subsea oil & gas applications.
