Stainless Steel Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade; typically second in importance to Grade 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steel family. The materials molybdenum content allows for better corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, especially with higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics and is formed into a variety of parts for applications within the industrial, architectural, and transportation industries. Grade 316 also demonstrates outstanding welding characteristics.
