Stainless steel grade 17-7 PH is a precipitation hardened stainless steel that demonstrates high strength, hardness, excellent fatigue properties, good formability, good corrosion resistance, and minimal distortion upon heat treatment. Precipitation-hardened stainless steels have high strength and high corrosion resistances making this material well suited for aerospace applications.
17-7 PH has been a good material for use in fresh water, industrial atmospheres, as well as mild chemical and oxidizing environments. Though this material has proven useful in the aforementioned applications, 17-7 PH should not be designed into systems that come in contact with salt water.
